on the energy markets. let's go to bertha coombs at the nymex. >> we are seeing a little bit of a pullback here when it comes to brent futures, and also across the board pretty much in energy today. not what you would necessarily expect with the weaker dollar. the concern, of course, is that if we do go over that fiscal cliff, no deal by the end of the year. that we will see some recessionary pressures here in the first quarter. at least that's what the congressional budget office is talking about. nat gas is feeling the pressure after a strong rally over the last couple of days. we're getting profit taking there. ironically, it comes after the commitment of traders report from the cftc saying we saw the biggest increase in terms of net long positions in nymex futures. gold holding steady. not necessarily being the big safe haven play. but it is among the strongest performers in the metals complex. we are seeing some strength in po laid yum and platinum. that according to rbc because of a new etf there. >> thank you very much, bertha coombs. we've got a travel doubleheader for you. former conti

ffom the pits of the cme. sandra: this from a late government report on energy supplies. normally we get a crude oil report on wednesday but because of the christmas holiday we got it today and we are a few minutes from the close of the trading session for crude oil. it has been quite a week. the second straight day of losses but still hanging on to the $90 market. this crude-oil inventories key, showing the size of crude oil setting a nine month high, that would be good for gasoline prices to go lower. this isn't always a good sign about the economy. in the face of the fiscal cliff there is concern about what will happen with taxes and american consumers income in the new year. they're backing off of energy consumption. that is leading to lower prices. for the trading, overall volume is half of its 100 a average. we're seeing light participation in those markets and as of today crude down 8%. we are watching natural-gas prices as whether roles throughout the country. folks are using more natural gas pushing prices up, contrary to crude-oil prices going down, the energy report is dai

was an engineer with a passion to try a lot of new stuff and i have a lot of energy. i hired people because i could not do myself what i wanted to do, and so i had employees. and i respected the work that they did because i gave them good salaries and the very best dental and health insurance, better than lockheed. and i never thought that i was there to grow a business or to make a profit. in fact, the number one thing -- and i always said that even to those who held stock in my company -- the number one thing, the biggest priority for my employees was to have fun. i enjoyed the accomplishment of breakthroughs and the fun of a first applied. and everyone who worked for me deserved to have that enjoyment. the second priority was the families of the employees have fun. that is why we provided good salaries and good health care and so on. the third priority, no cutting to make a profit. it is tough to say that to a stockholder or a board member. but every company i have ever seen go bankrupt, they started having fun -- they stop having fun before that. when people have fun, they will work like.

throughout today and tonight. let's break it down. you see the low sliding off the coast. getting energy if the west. it becomes intense and stays to the south of new england. now with that flow, we're getting the winds coming from the north, picking up the moisture from the atlantic. that's why eastern massachusetts, if you can see the brighter white here, indicates a little bit more intense snowfall. it is still something we're monitoring because the as the low slides east or west, that would impacts how much rain versus how much snow you get in new england. whether you're in new england or not, you'll face some travel troubles today. we have airport delays forecast for the northeast, the mid-atlantic, the midwest. and even down here in the south, we had delays in charlotte this morning. and on the west coast, we could see delays, low clouds and rain even in los angeles. busy travel weekend. lots of weather coast to coast that will impact millions of people. >> no escaping it, huh? >> no. >> thanks. >>> tax hikes, spending cuts, and the u.s. economy caught right in the middle. we can o

at the nymex. we have a nice little rally. if you're long, it's looking pretty good. nymex leading the energy complex. we had the contract here go above $91. that's a two-month high for the current contract. partly we've seen a little bit of a weakening of the dollar. that has certainly helped commodities. also optimism about the fact they're getting back to work in washington to try to avert the year-end fiscal cliff situation. meantime, one of the things that's interesting is how wti nymex has performed. year-to-date it has been the worst performer with regard to its loss versus a gain on the benchmark now for the global crude of brent. because we continue to see a glut here in the u.s. of oil that's produced, and unable to get out to the rest of the market, to the global market, because of a lack of infrastructure. in fact, that brent premium for a second year has topped $15 on average for the year. we're close to $20 here. nat gas also getting a bit of a boost today. the near term forecast certainly chilly. you can see that with all of that snow that's headed towards the east coast from t
